FedEx has been present at Liège Airport for 27 years. After scaling back its operations in Bierset in 2021 — resulting in the loss of hundreds of jobs — FedEx is now significantly strengthening its presence at Liège Airport once again. Since 2024, the company has increased its Liège–Memphis connection to eight flights per week and has also developed a new route between Liège and Indianapolis.
A wide-body aircraft (a Boeing 777), capable of carrying nearly 70 tonnes of cargo, operates these non-stop flights to the United States.
In practical terms, FedEx has selected its Liège Airport platform as its intercontinental air freight hub for Europe. This means that palletised shipments and consignments over 68 kg are handled in Bierset. Liège is strategically positioned to connect easily with FedEx’s major road hubs in Arnhem and Venlo in the Netherlands, ensuring efficient links with the company’s European road network.
This decision by FedEx further strengthens Wallonia’s position as a key hub for air cargo transport in Europe.
